Lucy J. Shoecraft

Mrs. Shoecraft Dead - Mrs. Lucy J. Shoecraft, wife of Merchant George Shoecraft, died Tuesday morning about 10 o’clock, at the advanced age of 77 years. About nine months ago, Mrs. Shoecraft sustained a broken hip from a fall, and in all these months has not been able to stand on her feet, or even to sit up but few times. For several weeks her strength had been waning and so life’s lanp burned slowly out. The sweet spirited christian fortitude with which this sufferer patiently bore her affliction affords an object lesson from which all of us should profit. Mrs. Shoecraft has been a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years. Before her affliction there were none in the church more regular in attendance at worship than Mrs. Shoecraft and her husband, both always came together and occupied seats near the same place. She spoke of her religious experience often during her last illness, and even immediately before death gave clear testimony to abiding faith and consciousness of having won the christian’s victory - the crown of everlasting life. The funeral service was in the Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock, Rev. H. B. Cox, of Newport, preaching a fitting sermon. Interment was at Oak Lawn Cemetery shortly after 4 o’clock.
