1790's Census Records

The 1790 U.S. Federal Census:

• Census day was 2 August 1790.
• The first census included the original 13 States (Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia) and Vermont, plus Southwest Territory.
• The census collected the following information:
  • Name of the head of the family
  • Number of free white males
    - under 16 years
    - of 16 years and upward
  • Number of free white females
  • Number of other free persons
  • Number of slaves
• The records for Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, and Virginia have been lost.
