He was one of the old landmarks of Eastern Arkansas, having lived in Phillips, Lee and St. Francis counties since 1860, having removed from Huntsville, Ala. He was in his seventieth year, had been an ardent member of the Methodist church since his thirteenth year of age, was a Royal Arch Mason, had served two terms as judge of this (St. Francis) county and a partial term as postmaster under Cleveland, and served the city as mayor two terms.
