DEATH OF JUDGE M. T. SANDERS

Judge Mathew T. Sanders, who has been a resident of Helena for nearly forty years, died at his home in the northwestern part of the city, last night at near midnight, after an illness of about three weeks.

Judge Sanders came to Helena from Alabama before the war and went out with the Yell Rifles, and was on Gen. Hawthorn’s staff when the war closed. He served as county judge four years, beginning in 1878, and in 1882 was elected judge of the Circuit court of the First Judicial district, serving eight years. He voluntarily retired from the bench and has followed the practice of law up to the time of his death. Those who survive him are his wife and five children, Misses Maude, Lucy and Christine, Mrs. Gilbert Yaegar, Charles P. Sanders; a brother, Dr. W. H. Sanders, president of the Alabama state board of health, of Mobile; and three sisters, Mesdames F. A. Steele, Birmingham, Ala., R. K. Horton, Pleasant Ridge, Ala., and W. C. Oliver, Houston, Tex. The funeral will take place Sunday at 2:30 o’clock.
