John T. Orr

John T. Orr, a prominent hardware merchant of Clarendon was shot with a shotgun heavily loaded with buckshot Saturday about 9:30 p.m. and died Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Orr had just returned from choir practice at the Methodist church and was in the dining room of his house preparing to make a lemonade when he was shot. His wife and baby, who were asleep, were the only ones at home. He was shot through a screen window facing his back window, which window has six bullet holes in it.

Mr. Orr became conscious long enough to say that he had no idea who shot him. No clue has been found to the assassin and the coroner’s jury has adjourned until tomorrow at 3 p.m. pending further investigation. Blood hounds failed to track, as heavy rains had obliterated all scent. The feeling in Clarendon is very intense and the citizens are doing all in their power to assist Sheriff Jackson to ferret out the criminal.
