Mrs. Sara J. Mitchell's Death - Life of Prominent Lady Comes to Close-

Mrs.Sara J. St. Clair Mitchell, died Jan. 21, 1917, age 74 years and 27 days. The end came to Mrs. Mitchell at the family residence on North Main Street, Sunday night about 9:30 o’clock and in her last moments she was surrounded by those whom she loved and who loved her best. Her going was as gentle and peaceable as if falling into a sleep. Mrs. Sara J. St. Clair Mitchell was born Dec. 25, 1940(sic). Her parents were Peter St. Clair and Elizabeth St. Clair. One brother, Walter M. St. Clair, and two sisters, Mrs. W. W. Wilson and Miss Alice St. Clair, all of this city, are the only living members of her family of five brothers and six sisters. The deceased was married to Dr. L. B. Mitchell, Nov. 22, 1865, and to them nine children were born, to-wit: Lewis Edwin Mitchell, James St. Clair Mitchell, Howard Gist Mitchell, Carl DeBarry Mitchell, East Prairie, Mo., Clyde Estelle Mitchell, Mary Virginia Mitchell, Frederick Pointer Mitchell, Texarkana, Ark., Mrs. D. S. Coleman, Vian, Okla., Ralph Cleveland Mitchell.

All of the above are living and were present at the funeral with the exception of the eldest son, Lewis Edwin Mitchell, since deceased. Mrs. Sara J. St. Clair Mitchell, mother of this large and hanpy family, was educated at the Denmark Female College - a Presbyterian College that ranked high among the institutions af learning in Tennessee, back in the "fifties." Here she was converted to the Christian religion and became a zealous and faithful member of the Presbyterian Chruch and remained such until their removal to Austin, Arkansas, where there being no Presbyterian Church, then, she became a member of the Methodist Church. The funeral was at the family residence on North Main Street Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. W. T. Thurman of the Presbyterian Church Officiating, Mother Mitchell's favorite old hymn was "Rock of Ages" and this was sung at the funeral by Mesdames Jas. L. Woodfin and Wm. B. Folsom....... The burial was at Oaklawn, the following serving as honorary and active pall bearers: Messrs. A. Flora, John Gazzola, E. H. Converse, T. C. Simmons, Benj. Emmons, Chas. Duff, L. K. Brown, M. R. Stimson, Jas. Gunn, J. L. Woodfin, C. F. Greenlee and Wm. B. Folsom.
