W. R. Hampton

Locals: W. R. Hampton Dead: Died at his home in this city Thursday evening, January 4, W. R. Hampton, one of the county’s most efficient officials, of typho-malarial fever. Bud Hampton, as he was familiarly known to his friends, had been a citizen of Marianna for many years and by his noble traits of character had greatly endeared himself to a large circle of friends who will regret exceedingly to hear of his death. He was stricken with the disease of which he died about the first of October and was confined to his bed for several weeks, but recovered sufficiently to get out of doors. Not recuperating as satisfactorily as he wished he concluded that a visit to Hop Springs would be of benefit and went there the latter part of December but after a few days stay, realizing that the waters were proving an injury rather than a benefit, Dr. McClendon of this city was wired to come over and accompany him home, where he arrived in a dying condition the latter part of last week and lingered until the time mentioned.
W. R. Hampton was a loyal and true friend who will be greatly missed and mourned by a large circle of acquaintances and friends. He leaves an aged mother, a wife and daughter, Miss Donna, and two little boys to mourn the death of a dutiful son, an affectionate husband and father to whom the heartfelt sympathies of a host of friends are extended in this hour of affliction...... The remains were followed to their last resting place in the city cemetery yesterday at 3 p.m. by a large concourse of friends. The burial services were conducted by the Rev. James G. Lane.
