Eliza Brown

Clarendon - Mrs. Eliza Brown, 86, Clarendon’s oldest native citizen, died in her home here at 6:40 p.m. yesterday. She was born Aug. 15 1860 (1859), and in 1877 (20 Dec 1876) married R. W. English who died in 1882 (1881). She was married to T. M. Brown in 1894 (19 Feb 1896), and he preceded her in death. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended the first church ever built in Clarendon (Cumberland Presbyterian Church). Her parents, W. H. Sebastian and Sarah Sebastian, were among the first settlers of Monroe County.

She is survived by two sons, R. W. English, Clarendon, and Dr. T. M. Brown, Hot Springs; two grandchildren, R. W. English, Jr., Clarendon, and Jean Brown, Hot Springs; a step-son, W. H. Brown, Clarendon; five step- daughters, Mrs. J. E. Pinkley, Clarendon, Mrs. Roy McCullough, Birmingham, Ala.; Mrs. Mattie Pinkley and Miss Myrtle Brown of Little Rock, and Mrs. Frank Seals, New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Jackson and Mrs. Lucy Anderson, Clarendon.

Services will be conducted Friday morning in the 1st Presbyterian Church.

Funeral rites will be said from the Presbyterian Church in Clarendon by the Rev. W. C. Dinwiddie, pastor, at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. Interment in charge of S. E. Brown & Son will be at the Shady Grove Cemetery.
