Obituary of Dr. E. Burke Brown, of Cotton Plant, Arkansas

Dr. E. Burke Brown, Former Newport Resident, Dead

Dr. E. Burke Brown, of Cotton Plant, Ark., former resident of this town, died recently and the following article which appeared in the Cotton Plant Democrat will be of interest to many Vermillion Co. people.

A kindly hand, that has soothed the burning forehead of the sick, lifted gently up the weak, that was warm with friendliness and brotherly love, is stilled.

Cotton Plant has lost a friend, a man whom all loved old and young, and who had a warm spot in his heart for all humanity.

His cheery smile was a ray of sunshine that thoroughly engulfed all with whom he came in contact.

People knew him, not only as a physician, but a good neighbor, a kind friend, a loving father and husband. He loved his home and took great pride in his community.

No weak cluster of words can express the profound goodness he has done. Though he is not here his usual personality is deeply imbedded in the hearts of this community that will be a living inspiration to all.

Dr. Brown was born August 4, 1880 at Newport, IN, and has been a resident of Cotton Plant since 1911. He received his medical degree at Louisville Medical School in 1903 and practiced medicine until 1930.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, and the American Railroad Surgeon, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Newport, IN, since 1898. He was a surgeon for the Rock Island and M. & N. A. railroads local division, and served as Captain in the Medical Corps during the World War.

He married Miss Audrey Goode of El Dorado, August 31, 1914. Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, E. Burke, Jr. and John Thomas Brown; a daughter, Miss Sue Ellen Brown, and 2 sisters, Miss Sarah Brown and Mrs. Rachael Simpson.
