Mr. Brickell came to Clarendon in 1881 or 1882 and began the practice of law. In 1885, he was married to Miss Sallie Sebastian of this city. Two children were born to them, one of which is now living. In 1888, he was elected to the Senate from this (the 13th) district and was serving his last term when he died.

During the existence of the People’s Choice he was assistant editor to J. Hector Harris, and was a writer of unique style and originality. He is author of a little book of poems entitled “Rosetta; or a Poem of the Southern Rebellion.” This book was published in 1882, at which time Mr. Brickell was quite a youth. He had during the past few years prepared another book of poems, entitled “The Hero.” It is in five cantes (sic) of about one hundred stanzas each. This poem has never been published. He has also contributed a number of smaller poems to the press, and displayed considerable poetic genus in many of them.
