James R. Bordley

Obituary of James R. Bordley. After an illness of more than three weeks, James R. Bordley died Sunday morning, February 5, 1899. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 12:30 at the Methodist church by Rev. R. C. Morehead, and the interment was made in Shady Grove Cemetery the same afternoon. The funeral was with honors of Cowan Lodge No. 39, Knights of Pythias, of which order the deceased was a member. The day was bitter cold, yet a large number of persons were at the church to pay their tribute of respect to a young man whom they all esteemed highly. The casket was covered with a beautiful floral anchor, made of roses and maiden’s -hair ferns, the creation of a Pine Bluff florist, which was provided by Col. H. S. Matthewman, a friend of the family.
The deceased was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan C. Bordley, and was for several years bookkeeper for the White River Stave Co., of this place. He was leader of the Methodist choir and possessed a voice of peculiar sweetness and volume. His promptness, active interest and the efficient service he rendered in his capacity as chorister endeared him to the members of his church, and his absence from his accustomed place will occasion the deepest regret.
He was married to Miss Lillie Davis, Christmas, 1895, and they built their home on Washington avenue. He leaves a widow, father and mother and a sister, Mrs. W. J. Mayo, to mourn his death.
Just in the prime of young manhood, with a new and pretty home and pleasant environments, eager and anxious to embark in a business enterprise which held out the rosiest pictures of success and prosperity, when the future seemed full of promise and his happiest hopes and fondest desires were about to be realized, he yielded his soul to his Maker and passed into the great unknown.
