John S. Black

Monroe County Treasurer Was Circuit Clerk-elect: John S. Black of Holly Grove, Ark., Monroe County treasurer and circuit clerk-elect, died at 6:25 o’clock yesterday morning at Baptist Hospital, following several weeks’ illness. He was 60 years of age. Judge Black had held various county offices for more than 20 years, and was completing a four-year term as treasurer. He planned to take office as clerk on Jan. 1. He was a Presbyterian and a Mason. He was first admittd to the hospital in November, returning to his home Nov. 17. He re-entered the hospital Friday. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mayola McDougal, Little Rock, and a sister, Mrs. H. P. Tomlin, Jackson, Tenn.

Editor’s note: His grave stone in Macedonia Cemetery gives: born 1866, died 1934.
