At the junction of Phillips, Lee, and Monroe counties in eastern Arkansas, stands a monument marking the initial point where engineers representing the United States began the survey November 10, 1815, to determine the boundaries of the territory embraced in the Louisianna Purchase.
The Tri-County Genealogical Society recognizes this historic event and embraces the symbolism in our logo.

Tri-County Genealogical Society’s physical facility has grown from the 8’ x 10’ space we occupied in the Davidson Civic Center in Marvell at the time of organization in November 1985 to the current library building into which the Society moved in late 1998.
In 1998 the Society purchased an unfinished 30’ x 50’ building made possible by gifts from TCGS members from 19 states and Canada. By the end of the year the interior of the building was completed with additional gifts from members, businesses and friends from many places. An open house was held in January 1999.
The late Rose White, charter member, was chairman of the building committee and supervised the work on the building until completion. A plaque with names of the contributors to the building adorns the wall in the library, as well as a plaque with the names of the charter members.
Tri-County Genealogical Society continues to operate from dues and generous donations from faithful members. In addition to building donations, contributors have purchased computers and copiers for use of our library patrons.
Library holdings total in excess of 7000. This includes approximately 3000 reference books and periodicals, the LDS IGI, approximately 400 family histories, many county histories, surname files, state census and cemetery records, military records, etc. Computer with Internet access, microfilm and fiche readers and a copier are available. The library is open any day by request to one of our library volunteers.
Each and every volunteer and contributor these past years should be applauded; there are too many to name individually. TCGS could not operate without you. We are indeed grateful for your support through the years.
We are currently working with the City of Marvell on a grant for another facility which will be more accessible and will house our collections in a temperature-controlled environment. Meanwhile, plan a visit to our library by calling one of the library volunteers listed elsewhere on this site.
